Taxotere (docetaxel) is a chemotherapy drug approved in the treatment of breast cancer along with other forms of cancer. It is a member of the family of drugs called taxanes and administered intravenously through a vein.
The manufacture of Taxotere, Sanofi-Aventis, failed to inform the FDA, health care providers and the public that permanent hair loss was a side effect of the drug. While some hair loss during chemotherapy is expected, patients using Taxotere were faced with permanent hair loss. Permanent hair loss is extremely debilitating condition especially for women.
